Democratizing Pyrenean Heritage Knowledge

In alignment with our strict non-commercial mandate, all historical monographs, technical architectural drawings, and educational kits produced by or entrusted to the Association des Amis de la Chapelle Notre Dame de Montgauzy are published without subscription fees, commercial paywalls, or restrictive licensing. Historical Cartography

Cadastral Cartography & Topographical Evolution

The topographical relationship between the town of Foix and the promontory of Montgauzy has evolved over centuries of regional development. Our archival department has digitized rare historical plans dating from the seventeenth through nineteenth centuries, including the historic Napoleonic cadastral surveys of Ariège.

These maps illustrate the ancient network of pilgrimage routes, mule trails, terraced vineyards, and dry-stone enclosures that once encircled the sanctuary. By comparing historical cartography with modern satellite photogrammetry, our researchers have successfully identified buried medieval foundation alignments and verified historical drainage gullies that protected the chapel from torrential Pyrenean storm runoff.

Scientific Diagnostic Reports & Masonry Elevation Surveys

Before undertaking any physical intervention upon historic stone, rigorous diagnostic assessments must be completed. Our technical archives preserve the complete collection of structural survey reports compiled by certified heritage architects, geologists, and structural engineers.

These dossiers include 3D laser-scan point clouds of the Romanesque apse vaults, mineralogical analyses of original lime mortars, micro-climatic humidity monitoring logs, and endoscopic inspections of internal masonry cavities. Making these technical studies publicly available allows conservation professionals throughout Europe to study authentic Pyrenean masonry behavior under changing mountain climates.
